2) When I say Mao is not as bad I defend his character not his actions. Good people can do bad things.
3) Of course their are scattered memorials to victims of fascism but they aren't used as political tools by the right-wing Federal government to crush an ideology that all but a few would believe is actually worth crushing.
4) Your point would stand if we were debating whether death is more or less painful because of the cause. The fact is, however, we are debating the political significance of the federal government bringing back cold war propoganda.
5) Having written what I wrote almost a year ago I forget why I referenced Orwell. I will say that having read both Animal Farm and Fighting in Spain, I see Orwell as merely an anti-Stalinist and not an anti-communist.

I really like your field idea for the new stadium. I wonder how much cheaper it would be to just build a terraced hill around the field for seating as opposed to some concrete monstrosity.

As a former French and a new Canadian, I find Canadian patriotism fascinating. In France, patriotism is often associated with far right-wing movement and displaying the flag is seen as odd, even controversial sometimes.

I find Canadian have a kind of "inclusive" patriotic display that doesn't live anybody out. I remember, the first time I went to the Canada Day celebration (I live in Ottawa, so it's pretty much a must see). I found it so cool to see people of all walks of live waving the Canadian flag!

So move to Toronto if it's so wonderful. Or better yet, go back to England, cuz we all know they don't give people AAAAANY hassles when someone wants to build in 2000+ year old London. Give me a break. Go back to your own country. We don't need miserable whiners like you in our country.

/agree
I find it odd, though, that you recognize how awful Winnipeggers are at simple tasks like driving forward in a straight line holding while holding to a certain speed, but not too long ago you had suggested implementing the roundabout.

Dude. We can't even figure out a merging lane. The number of times I have seen someone come to a dead stop pulling off of the Perimeter onto Pembina northbound...and that's not even a merging lane per se, that's just an offramp that leads directly into the outside lane of the highway.

Trying to get onto the Perimeter is an exercise in terror more often than not. Aforementioned former frat boy in an F-150 behind you, gunning up your ass, 4 cars in the outside lane, none in the inside lane...and not one person moves over to let you in. Not one. I'm seriously waiting for the day the Ford decides to just shove my car over the edge of the overpass or something because I'm having to go slow to let those 4 cars get past me before I run out of merging space on the overpass.

As sad as it is to say...I don't think Winnipeggers can handle roundabouts.

Canada day is not about smugness and arrogance, not the Canada day I have experienced, it is about celebrating the birth of our great country. I would hardly call it cheap and I would most certainly compare it to Australia or Independence day.
